Rendering of new playground at Ashland - 5.6.24

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A more accessible playground is slated for a popular park in Clarksville, Indiana.

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department announced Monday a new ADA accessible playground and turf surfacing will be installed at Ashland Park, which is on the Ohio River.

The project, which is part of Clarksville's Riverside Drive revitalization project, is funded by a $475,000 federal grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund with $300,000 of that funding being used to install the playground and turf.

“With the installation of a new accessible playground in Ashland Park, inclusivity becomes the cornerstone of play as we continuously work to improve life along the beautiful Ohio River," BJ Nelson-Lynton, Superintendent of Clarksville Parks, said in a news release.

The remaining funds will be used to partially reimburse the town of Clarksville for its $350,000 purchase of the park and the 18 acres from Marathon Oil in 2023.

The previous playground at Ashland Park, which was installed in 1995 at a price of $10,000, was removed in late April. Installation of the new playground is set to start in later this month and will take about four to six weeks to complete.
