LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Construction this spring will close the main road leading to Ashland Park, making the area a bit tougher to access for Thunder Over Louisville in April.

Riverside Drive in Clarksville will undergo 11 months of renovations, impacting some access to Ashland Park, which runs from Main Street to the Falls of the Ohio and is often prime viewing for Thunder.

The $7 million project will add new sidewalks, bike paths, crosswalks, street parking and lighting. Right now, the town said, pedestrians and bicyclists are forced to walk or ride in the street because of a lack of sidewalks from Market Street to Ashland Park.

People will still be able to walk and bike through the construction zone to get to the park and the Ohio River Greenway.

The Indiana Department of Transportation provided 80% of the funding for the project, with the Town of Clarksville's Redevelopment Commission covering the remaining 20%.

Prep work for the project is slated to start this month, with construction starting in January.Ā The project is estimated to be finished in November 2024. During construction, Riverside Drive will close to vehicle traffic.Ā

Town officials said they expect to release more information about traffic and parking plans for Thunder in the spring.
