LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An organization that provides hope and joy during the holidays is setting a bold goal to help more children in need.
Operation Christmas Child uses simple shoeboxes to send gifts to children all over the world.
This year, the organization hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 12 million kids.
Justin Thomas was a child living overseas in poverty when he received his shoebox, his very first gift.
"I was very thankful that somebody took time, resources, and money to put together a beautiful box for Justin Thomas ... me," he said. "And my pastor came and gave me this and when I opened the shoebox, everything in that shoebox was brand new."
Anyone can pack a box, but the organization is hoping more local churches, families, and groups get involved.Â
National Collection Week is Nov. 18-25 in Louisville, where you can drop off the shoeboxes at several locations across the city:
- Adventure Christian Church
- Ashby Lane Baptist Church
- First Virginia Ave. Baptist Church
- Highview Baptist Church - Fegenbush Campus
- Highview Baptist Church - East Campus
- Highview Central at Southside
- Hikes Point Christian Church
- Our Savior Lutheran Church
