LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A World War II veteran from Kentucky is about to celebrate his 99th birthday and his one wish is to receive 99 birthday cards. 

Glenn "Sonny" Fisher operated a 40 millimeter anti-aircraft gun with the 9th Army across Europe. Upon arriving on Utah Beach in France in September 1944, he crossed into Belgium, Luxembourg and finally Germany, where he met the Russians at the Elbe River.

Honor Flight Bluegrass and the KILROY vintage military organization is teaming up with the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department that Fisher helped found to celebrate him.

The public is invited to a party from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11  at the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department located at 23 Church Street in Bedford. Stop by and shake Fisher's hand and see the vintage military vehicles on display at the adjoining Bedford Loan and Deposit Bank.
