LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Before the horses hit the track for the 151st Kentucky Derby, celebrities and locals will be hitting the dance floors at some of the nation’s most talked about pre-race parties across Louisville.

Among the biggest events of Derby weekend is the Barnstable Brown Gala, set for Friday night in the Highlands. The long-running party has been named one of the top parties in the country by Conde Nast.

The gala raises money for the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Research Center at the University of Kentucky and has so far raised more than $21 million.

“The Kentucky Derby is wonderful, but this is the Barnstable Brown Party,” said Brent Brightwell, a production manager for the event. “When you’re doing some good, it really makes you feel good.”

A production crew of nearly 100 has been working for weeks to prepare the historic mansion. Large tents fill the front and backyard, and the guest list includes celebrities like Machine Gun Kelly, Simone Biles, Tracy Morgan, Selma Blair, Wilmer Valderrama and Dierks Bentley.

Across town in Paristown, workers secured lighting grids and cables ahead of the FanDuel Party, now in its second year. The more casual event will draw about 1,300 guests cocktails, food, and a performance by country artist Shaboozey.

“You don’t have to get all decked out in very expensive gowns and tuxedos,” said Jeanne Hilt, director of Development at Paristown.

For those looking for a more family-friendly option, Christy’s Garden at Paristown will host a Derby Day Garden Party, featuring a livestream of the races, food trucks and entertainment. Admission is $30 for adults, children between the ages of 11-17 are $10 and children 10 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.

Meanwhile, preparations were also underway at the Galt House Hotel for the Unbridled Eve Gala, which benefits 15 local charities. Performers include Jack Hues, Matt Thomas, and Richie Sambora, with dozens of stars expected to attend.

“This transforms to a fairyland,” said organizer Tammy York Day. “It’s wonderful to see all this activity and this focus on our beloved Louisville, Kentucky.”

WDRB will have full coverage of the parties Friday night and Saturday morning leading up to the 151st Kentucky Derby.
