The company says a computer can falsely detect too much current on one or both of the tail lamps, causing them to stay dark while the trucks are being driven.
Ford said most of the job cuts would come in Germany and would be carried out in consultation with employee representatives.
The company announced Wednesday the electric truck will be called the Ford Fathom.
