LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Ford has revealed the name and starting price of the new electric pickup truck that will be built at the Louisville Assembly Plant.
The company announced Wednesday the electric truck will be called the Ford Fathom. Pricing for the standard-range model will start at $28,850. Preorders are expected to begin in early 2027, with deliveries planned before the end of the year.
The company did not release any photos of the truck, keeping its design under wraps.
The Fathom will be the first vehicle built on Ford's new Universal EV Platform and the first all-electric vehicle ever produced at Louisville Assembly Plant.
Ford announced a $2 billion investment in the south Louisville plant last year to convert the facility from producing the Escape SUV to manufacturing the next generation of electric vehicles. The project is expected to support about 2,200 jobs.
The company said the mid-size pickup truck will seat five adults and have more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4. It will come with features including a large touchscreen, digital key technology, a front trunk and bed storage. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and BlueCruise hands-free highway driving will also be included.
Ford said Wednesday truck's name was chosen after a nine-month long process that included a long list of possibilities.
"We named it Fathom because real depth comes from deeply understanding how you live," Ford said on its website. "Inspired by the classic measure of open arms, Fathom welcomes you in with an expansive interior and technology that adapts on the fly."
The company said the new truck will seat five adults and come with features including a large touchscreen, digital key technology, a front trunk and bed storage. Also included is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and BlueCruise hands-free highway driving.
Ford expects the Fathom to reach customers before the end of 2027.
