LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was injured after a heavy fire broke out Sunday evening at an apartment building in Old Louisville.
Capt. Donovan Sims with the Louisville Fire Department said crews responded to an apartment building fire in the 1800 block of South 3rd Street just after 8 p.m.
According to Sims, a three-story, multi-family apartment had heavy fire in the rear and a second alarm was dispatched within 10 minutes. It took 50 firefighters about 40 minutes to get the fire under control.
Occupants self-evacuated and were accounted for. Two firefighters were treated for exhausted but remained on scene.
Sims said one person was taken to the hospital due to injuries, but his or her condition is unknown at this time.
Louisville Arson is investigating the cause of the fire.
