LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person is unaccounted for after a large house explosion in southern Indiana on Monday night.

The explosion happened in the 9000 block of N. County Road 1100 E. in French Lick about 6:14 p.m. That's about 15 minutes from the French Lick casino.

Dubois County Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter said two people live in the home, but only one person, a man, was home at the time of the explosion. Sheriff Kleinhelter said crews have searched the perimeter, but have called off the search for the night. He said crews will be out again Tuesday morning with an excavator and dogs to search for the man.

Dubois County Fire Department said about six different departments were on scene, and they were able to contain all the hot spots.

On Tuesday crews were expected to focus their search on the basement area of the property.

Dubois County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal are investigating.

Indiana State Police in Jasper said in a Facebook post Monday, the Lost River Township Fire department advised them some houses a half mile away were damaged, and the explosion was heard 10 miles away.

Next door neighbor, Nate King, said he could see debris floating down in the air when he ran out of his house.

"I was out working in the woodshop, and I had hearing protection on for equipment and whatnot, listening to a podcast, and it scared me to death," Nate King, neighbor, said.
