LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An alleged carjacker was arrested early Saturday morning after leading Louisville police on a chase.

Matthew Sanders, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said 21-year-old Mark Dawson was arrested and charged with two counts of fleeing or evading police, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, no operator’s moped license and possession of marijuana.

In a news release, Sanders said officers responded to a reported carjacking in the area of 11th Street and W. Broadway at 11:30 p.m.

The victim told officers she was carjacked at knifepoint and ran inside to call police.

Police found the stolen vehicle 20 minutes later and Dawson, the alleged suspect, led officers on a pursuit.

Court documents state Dawson ran multiple stop signs and red lights before crashing into a fence at the area of 39th and Garland.

After a witness showed officers a picture of Dawson, LMPD used the Air Unit, Drone Unit and K-9 Unit to find him on S. 40th Street.

Police said he was told several times to stop and get on the ground but took off running again. An LMPD K-9 caught Dawson shortly after and a search by officers found marijuana in his pocket.

Dawson is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Monday, Feb. 2.
