LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 10-year-old boy was hospitalized Saturday morning after accidentally shooting himself in the leg, Louisville Metro Police said.

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said officers responded just before 11 a.m. to Madelon Court and South 35th Street in Louisville's Shawnee neighborhood. Officers found the boy with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Mitchell said the boy was alert and conscious when he was transported to Norton Children's Hospital. He's expected to survive.

LMPD's 2nd Division officers are investigating.
