LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville now has a brand new group of firefighters joining its ranks.
The Louisville Fire Department hosted a graduation ceremony on Thursday for Recruit Class 189, which includes 26 recruits.
Six of the new recruits are military veterans or are active-duty military, nine have college degrees, nine are parents, and eight have family members who are in the fire service or retired.
Only one recruit in the class is a woman. In its entire history, Louisville Fire has only had about 30 women come through its ranks.
"If you're prepared mentally and physically to go through it, you know, you just have to take it day by day and just keep pushing yourself further than you thought was possible," recruit Candace Mosby said.
Each recruit class has to go through six months of extensive physical training, as well as written testing.
