LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Our Savior Lutheran School will be getting an all-inclusive play space but more donations are still needed to fund the project.
The playground is inspired by Luke, one of their students. Luke's mom, Sarah Medson, worked with the Dream Foundation to raise money for the playground.
Luke has a cervical cord injury due to a traumatic delivery and uses a walker to get around. Medson was introduced to Mitch Barnes, founder of Dream Foundation.
The nonprofit helps to construct accessible playgrounds for children with disabilities. His foundation has helped create 14 accessible parks across the city.
"It was really a dream that when I said the number and how much it costs a lot of people looked at me and said, 'well, that's a lot of money' but there were a few that said, 'we can do this, it's possible,' so I'm just grateful to be here today with the donors who believed it was possible," Medson said.
The accessible park costs $750,000 and they still need $145,000 for the space.
When finished, it will be the only accessible playground in that part of the city. It's currently planned to open in the spring.
