LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Cosmo the K-9 will soon have more protection when on patrol with its handler.Â
The bullet- and stab-protective vest for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources' Law Enforcement K-9 was made possible thanks to a donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., according to a news release Friday.Â
The vest will be embroidered with "Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always." The vest is expected to arrive within eight to 10 weeks.
Cosmo's brother Gambit — who also works for the department — was awarded a vest in September, and is currently awaiting its delivery.
The nonprofit's mission is to provide bullet- and stab-protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. Since its inception in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided more than 5,289 vests to K-9s in all 50 states valued at $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.
