LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Baptist Health Louisville held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning on its new dual emergency and urgent care facility.

Baptist and Intuitive Health hosted the event on Bardstown Road off Interstate 265, between Fern Creek and Highview. Baptist Health ER and Urgent Care Glenmary allows patients who are unsure if they need emergency or urgent care. to be evaluated and treated based on their needs.

"This approach not only potentially reduces out-of-pocket expenses but also saves valuable time and alleviates the stress of choosing between ER and urgent care," Baptist said in a news release.

Patients will be billed for the services they received, so if you end up in the urgent care, you won't pay emergency prices.

"I think what we pride ourselves on at this particular facility is the need to really solve the problem of access to care and confusion that patients may have about 'Do I go to the emergency department? Do I go to the urgent care?'" said Dr. Jonathan Velez, president of Baptist Health Louisville. "They don't have to worry about that anymore. We sort that all out."

The 11,400-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in the summer of 2025.
