LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bardstown police are warning residents of a scam involving a fake social media page's post about a local arts and crafts fair.

The Bardstown Police Department said in a Facebook post Friday a scammer created a fake Facebook page that looks nearly identical to the page for the Bardstown Main Street Facebook page.

The page has a post regarding vendor applications and payments being due for the city's Arts and Crafts Fair. Police said do not provide any form of payment to the page.

The Bardstown Arts and Crafts Fair will not ask for direct messages to receive an application. They will also never ask for payment through Venmo, PayPal or Cash App.

Police said you can spot a fake Facebook page by checking its following. Fake profiles will have far fewer followers. In this case, the fake page had less than 600 followers, while the real one has 25,000 followers.
