LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An officer's quick thinking likely saved lives in Clarksville, Indiana, last week.
Clarksville Police Officer Matthew Purlee was patrolling near Eastern Boulevard on Dec. 7 when he saw heavy smoke and located a house with flames coming from the chimney.
He pulled over and jumped into action. It was all captured on his body-worn camera.
Despite a language barrier, Purlee safely got the couple out of their home as it filled with smoke.
"This is what I have come to expect from our people," Clarksville Police Chief Nathan Walls said in a news release. "It's truly a privilege to have officers like that on our team."
The home was engulfed by flames just minutes later. Other officers arrived to ensure no one else remained inside.
Firefighters then took over the scene and worked to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
