LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Body camera video released Friday shows the tense moments a Louisville Metro Police officer fired five times at a house in the Parkland neighborhood earlier this month.
Just before midnight July 2, Officer Andrew Posante, who's been with LMPD for three years, responded to a home on Dumesnil Street due to an intoxicated man, Garad Amir Garad, having a mental health crisis.
LMPD said in a written statement two days later that officers tried to talk to Garad when he pulled out a weapon and "pointed the gun in the direction of officers." Posante then fired his gun five times, per the body camera video. Shortly after his last shot, Garad dropped the gun, came outside and was arrested.
Garad never fired his gun. An arrest citation says two of his family members told police Garad punched them, hurting one of them so badly she blacked out. It also says Garad damaged walls and electronics while in custody.
He's charged with seven counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of assault, criminal mischief and strangulation. He pleaded not guilty in court and is being held on a $75,000 cash bond. He is due back in court on July 30.
