LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville police released the name of the officer who fired at a man in the Parkland neighborhood.
Police said Officer Andrew Posante fired his weapon Wednesday night during an incident on Dumesnil Street.
LMPD Division 2 Commander Russell Miller said officers were called to a home on Dumesnil Street just before midnight on Wednesday, July 2 due to an intoxicated man, Garad Amir Garad, having a mental health crisis.
LMPD said in a written statement Thursday officers tried to talk to Garad when he pulled out a weapon and "pointed the gun in the direction of officers." Officer Posante then fired his gun. Garad eventually dropped the gun and was arrested.
LMPD said in the statement its Public Integrity Unit learned the subject did not fire his weapon. No one was hurt during the incident.Â
Posante is on paid administrative leave pending the outcomes of LMPD investigations.
Garad pleaded not guilty in court Friday, and is being held on a $75,000 cash bond. He is due back in court on July 14.
