LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Construction on Louisville's new VA hospital will not be completed this year as planned.
The project website now lists April 2027 as the expected completion date. After that, officials will need time to prepare the facility to serve patients.
An opening date has not been announced.
The $970 million facility, located along Interstate 264 in east Louisville, was about 80% complete as of September 2025, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The original timeline called for the hospital to open in spring 2026.
In a news release, USACE said the previous date was reflective of the "Contract Required Completion" date at that time. The opening date was changed to accommodate the latest medical equipment needed by the VA.
Officials said the formal handoff of the facility from USACE to VA is scheduled for no later than June 2027.
"USACE will continue working closely with the VA throughout the remaining phases of the project to ensure the facility is ready to provide Veterans with the high-quality care they have earned and deserved," USACE said in a news release. "USACE remains committed to providing the facility as expeditiously as possible. Safety, quality, and operational integrity remain our absolute priorities."
