LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Construction has started at an outdoor venue in Elizabethtown.
The Elizabethtown Outdoor Music Venue is under construction at Buffalo Lake, according to WDRB's partner Louisville Business First. It's a $30 million project at a recreational and wildlife reserve in Hardin County.
Elizabethtown Tourism and the city of Elizabethtown announced the initial construction phase Jan. 30. The development wants to preserve the natural environment. According to a news release, 200 scrub trees will be removed and replaced with 474 new indigenous trees.Â
The outdoor venue plans to open in 2026. It's located off Interstate 65 near Bluegrass Parkway on 55 acres of land. Â
Funding for the construction will come from a joint agreement between Elizabethtown and the tourism department. According to TourEtown.com, the majority of the cost will come from the local restaurant tax, which is a 2% city tax on prepared foods.
The venue will have 4,000 seats in the "bowl" area. An additional 6,000 seats will be available on the sides and back of the "bowl."Â Â
