LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Celebrity Chef Darnell Ferguson is bringing SuperChefs -- his superhero-themed restaurant -- to southern Indiana for a special weekend pop-up event.

That's according to our partners at Louisville Business First

The pop-up will be in operation from Sept. 19 through Sept. 21 at The Platform, located at 145 E. Main Street in New Albany, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Customers can dine in (with a reservation) or order carryout.

Ferguson told Louisville Business First in a recent interview that several venues have approached him since SuperChefs closed, but he wasn't able to find a good fit.

"I just hadn't found the right match when it comes to space and things like that," Ferguson said.

"And Platform -- I know the owners and they had enough space -- and it just worked out perfectly. We really just want to do some of our classic dishes we have from SuperChefs, but everything will be a little bit more grown up. This is just the first step toward deciding if we're going to reopen it and do some other fun concepts."

Ferguson launched the super hero-themed restaurant SuperChefs on Bardstown Road in 2016, after about four years of doing pop-up events under the name. It closed in July 2022 after its lease ended.

At the time, Ferguson was hosting the Food Network’s "Superchef Grudge Match," an hour-long program that premiered in 2023. It was not renewed for a third season while Ferguson took care of legal issues that were resolved in May.

Ferguson also owned the Tha' Drippin' Crab at 1219 W Jefferson Street, which closed permanently in 2023 after nearly two years in business.

The New Albany pop-up will feature SuperChef favorites like chicken and waffles, as well as the banana pudding granola encrusted French toast.

Ferguson said the pop-up at The Platform is the first of several similar events that he will use to test out new restaurant concepts in Louisville.

"I have a whole goal after this pop up of doing four other concepts. So, this is like the testing of waters," Ferguson said. "First, I wanted to do something people are familiar with and then, if this goes like we plan it to, we're going to unveil four new concepts over time that we'll be doing the same pop-ups for."

He said the next pop-up he has planned is a dinner concept called the Black Truffle. Patrons who attend the SuperChefs pop-up will get the first opportunity to sign up for the second event.
