LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Goss Avenue Deli is now open in the Schnitzelburg neighborhood in the former Baked AF location.
The new eatery opened Dec. 31 at 1010 Goss Ave., near Hauck’s Corner, according to our partners at Louisville Business First. It's owned by Eric Morris, who was looking to change careers after he found out the restaurant where he was employed — The Dirty Bird — would be turned into a pizza shop.
Morris also has experience running restaurants, having previously owned Faces Bar & Bistro, which closed in 2021. He also owned another eatery called the Gospel Bird in Louisville, as well as Hull & High Water in New Albany before it closed in 2019. He previously served as executive chef at the University Club on the UofL campus.
Morris was all set to get out of the hospitality industry when he remembered a response to a social media post he made announcing a pastrami pop-up while he was working at The Dirty Bird.
That's how the idea for the Goss Ave Deli was born.
"I had made a post about doing a pastrami pop-up somewhere because of how successful it was when I ran it at Faces," Morris told Louisville Business First in November. "We would legit sell out in the first five minutes. The response was much more than I expected. I knew from the Germantown/Schnitzelburg Facebook page that a lot of people really wanted to see a deli in the neighborhood."
When Morris found out Baked AF was leaving, he made his move.
"It’s a beautiful build-out and very manageable for me and a small team, compared with some of my previous ventures where I had upward of 30 employees," Morris said in an interview with Business First. "I want this to be a no-frills neighborhood deli for everyone," Morris said. "Affordable, approachable and really good food and vibes."
