LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Airlines are preparing now for Thanksgiving and Christmas week travel. If you're looking for a cheap flight, basic economy may seem like the answer.
With basic economy, there are some downsides.
Passengers don't have access to the overhead bins. So unless you are checking a bag, everything must fit in a bag small enough to fit under your seat.
You won't know your seat assignment until you arrive to the airport, which leaves you with getting what's leftover after other passengers book their seats ahead of time.
Passengers will more than likely be last the board the plane also, leaving you with a long wait time at the gate.
Basic economy passengers are not able to earn point with airlines, for example Delta SkyMiles, AA Advantage, or United Mileage Plus.
Lastly, no ticket changes are typically allowed.
So is the price worth it? Those are just a few things to think about as you book your next airline ticket.
