LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Many companies these days are bringing employees back to the office, but a lot of workers would prefer to spend more time working remotely.
The result? Scammers are swooping in with fake work-from-home jobs.
One woman was laid off from her job and soon found herself on job hunting sites only to find the perfect position. It was a legitimate company, they had a whole website, CEO's name was listed. The best of all? She could do it from home!
Her first assignment was confusing to her though: to cash a check.
Turns out, the company's name was legit but the job offer was not.
It's called the fake check scam. You will be asked to cash it, send some of it back to the company that hired you to start your employment, and then when it bounces - you'll be out hundreds of dollars.
Some red flags to watch out for are no face to face interview, an "international" company, or you receive a check before starting work.
