LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Homes are more expensive than ever in this day and age. Not only are prices at all time highs, but mortgage rates are still above 6%.

A new report recently showed some of the other expenses that have gone up sharply the past year.

Everywhere you turn, prices are up. Groceries, cars, and those pesky monthly bills you have to pay.

The report says that 89% of homeowners noticed a cost increase in utilities and services during this past winter. The biggest rate hike being electricity - 68% of people say those have skyrocketed.

52% said they were hit by an increase for gas services, whether it be natural gas or propane. 45% saw an increase in their water bill, and 41% saw their cable and streaming bills go up.

Other rising costs that come with owning a home are property taxes, home insurance, handyman costs, and lawn care costs.

The only home services seeing little price changes are landscaping, landline phones, and trash pickup.

While renting may be cheaper, remember that you aren't building up equity for when you sell, and that every rent dollar you spend is a dollar gone.
