LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is planning to build a new retail store in south Louisville.

The proposed location off Dixie Highway near the Gene Snyder Freeway would be just six miles away from its previous location in Pleasure Ride Park that was gutted by a fire in September 2023.

A fire extensive damaged a Goodwill location at 4840 Dixie Highway in Louisville, Ky. on Sept. 11, 2023.

The empty plot of land where Goodwill plans to build the store is on Willismore Drive next to the Cracker Barrel. Survey flags are already in place for construction to begin.

Those that live in that part of Valley Station said the new retail store is needed.

"It's been a long time since they've had it, and I've heard people say 'I miss the Goodwill,'" said Ann Carter . "We need something out here you know. We get left out a lot."

Goodwill filed an application with the Louisville Metro Planning Commission on Jan. 30 for the 1.94 acres of land to place the retail store. They've also submitted a letter of explanation for proposed redevelopment of the site into a 4,000 square foot Goodwill Donation Center.

WDRB reached out to Goodwill Industries of Kentucky to comment about this proposed location. It declined an interview but responded with this statement

"There hasn’t been a final decision made, but we do want to have more than an attended donation center to serve that area of South Louisville."

"We'll I'm hoping they open the other one, too -- the one that burned. Like the lady said, we need it. Everybody needs a place to shop," said Howard Lawson.
