LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After more than two years of construction, Derby City Gaming is about to open at 4th and Market streets, a project several years in the making that brings a new level of entertainment to downtown Louisville.

On Monday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and executives from Churchill Downs and Derby City Gaming unveiled the property for a preview.

The $92 million facility is 44,000 square feet and will have bars and lounges, live entertainment, sports wagering and close to 500 slots. There are three bars in all, including the First Turn Sports Bar, which is surrounded by big-screen TVs and sports betting kiosks. And the Trophy Bar will feature real trophies from legendary horse races, along with bourbons and cigars.

More than $6 million was spent solely to transform the outside of the building, which used to house a U.S. Bank location. A 90-degree wrap-around screen on the façade consists of two screens that stand 25 feet tall and span 60 feet across. Its unique display is one of only six in the country and the only one of its kind between New York City and Dallas.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said Derby City Gaming’s location across from hotels and the Kentucky International Convention Center will attract visitors from around the country and locals around the city.

"I think having another entertainment option and another food and beverage outlet at the quality of Derby City Gaming is a great foundation to continue to build upon," Greenberg said Monday.

One-hundred-and-fifty people are now employed there, and it generated 450 construction jobs over the last two years.

Derby City Gaming is set to open on Dec. 6, exactly 150 days before the 150th Kentucky Derby, held on May 4, 2024.
