JTOWN PROPOSED APARTMENT MEETING (2).jpeg

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) — Jeffersontown community members are saying no to a large apartment building that could be coming to the area.

"I have a 4-year-old daughter who rides her bike on our street and the increased traffic has become a question of, ā€˜Can we ride or can we not?’" community member Amanda Hightower said.

More traffic on a compact, two-lane road is just one of the many reasons why Jeffersontown community members are saying no to plans for a new apartment building development off Watterson Trail and Blue Bird Lane.

"There’s no room for expansion," community member Randy Lawson said. "You can’t reroute the road, you can’t reconstruct the road — there’s no room for that."

A representative from Jeffersontown City Hall said Arrows Investment LLC plans to place two five-story apartment buildings and a four-story building on the empty plot of land.

It would sit between a Jeffersontown senior living facility, home to more than 900 seniors, and a cemetery.

"These are all independent seniors who live at home and I promise you it’s not safe," said Julie Guerin, the director of the senior living center.

"The amount of parking spaces also doesn’t square to the amount of units on the blueprint so my other concern is where are those cars going to be," Hightower said.

During Wednesday's Louisville Metro planning meeting, a spokesperson from Land Design and Development, which designed the apartments, said they want to review about 40 concerns from the community before speaking in depth on the project.

"I really think it’s unfair that the developer gets about 30 days to respond to our complaints and concerns considering the fact that we only knew about this for five days and were able to organize and express our concerns as a neighborhood, community and city," Hightower said.

Land D&D LLC declined to comment on the concerns raised by community members.

"I would think they would’ve done a better job communicating what their plans are," Lawson said.
