LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Census Bureau in downtown Jeffersonville will soon have a new home.
The government office is moving from 10th and Main streets in downtown Jeffersonville to River Ridge in Charlestown. Census Bureau officials notified employees Oct. 4 that it had signed a lease for the new building that will house the National Processing Center.
"The NPC will move from Jeffersonville, Ind. to the new location in Clark County (about 12 miles away) on 1751 Penny Martin Lane in Charlestown, Ind. With this move, employees will be able to work in one state-of-the art building instead of multiple buildings across a large campus. The Census Bureau looks forward to working with GSA to complete the move in the summer of 2026," the Census Bureau said in a written statement.
The NPC in Jeffersonville is the main processing center for Census Bureau mail processing, survey processing, data capture, statistical operations, geographic operations, call center support and imaging/scanning, according to a news release. It handles support for the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and all other U.S. territories.
The Census Bureau had been looking for a new home for several years. The building and campus dates back to 1958 and is in a central area of Jeffersonville.
Officials said the new location will allow employees to work in one building instead of multiple buildings across a large campus.
