LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky is opening its first-ever reentry campus aimed at giving inmates job training and support as they prepare to leave prison.
Gov. Andy Beshear signed legislation creating the program, which will be run by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System at Northpoint Training Center in Burgin, Kentucky, located between Bardstown and Richmond.
State officials said the campus will serve up to 400 inmates each year, offering vocational training and support programs focused on connecting participants with in-demand jobs after release.
To participate, inmates must qualify, maintain good behavior and complete training programs before returning to their communities.
Officials said the goal is to improve public safety while giving people leaving prison a stronger path toward long-term employment and stability.
