LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — You've heard politics can be for the birds, but that took on a whole new meaning Tuesday evening at a Metro Council meeting.
Louisville Zoo employees brought a penguin and a falcon into Council chambers as they answered questions about the zoo's new $21 million budget.
The zoo is phasing out its elephant exhibit and adding koalas. In fact, on Tuesday, those furry Australian animals landed in Louisville.
"Our two koalas have landed from California. We got them here and we got all the permissions, and they have gotten here safely so we're glad to be able to announce that," Dan Maloney, Louisville Zoo director, said.
The koalas, 2-year-old Dharuk (DA-Rook) and 4-year-old Telowie (Tell-OU-EE) will be on exhibit on Glacier run alongside fellow Australian species after a 30-day quarantine.Â
