LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Â A new affordable housing community for seniors is set to break ground in south Louisville.
Bridlewood Crossing, a 76-unit development for residents aged 55 and older, as well as those with disabilities or at risk of homelessness, was announced Wednesday morning at the Grand Lion Event Center.
The complex, located on Third Street Road near the Outer Loop, will offer a mix of 28 one-bedroom and 48 two-bedroom units. Designed with modern finishes and energy-efficient appliances, some units will be specifically tailored for residents with mobility, sight, or hearing challenges.
"We will have a community room, a computer library room, a craft room, a fitness room, and even a billiard room," Tammy Stansbury of Woda Cooper Companies, the project's developer,. "A lot of times, the men feel left out of the craft room, so we wanted to include something for everyone."
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg emphasized the significance of affordable housing for seniors.
"Without safe, quality, and affordable housing, nothing else is possible, and that’s especially true for our seniors," he said.
The project comes at a time when affordable housing remains a critical issue in Louisville.
Katherine Dobbins from Wellspring, a nonprofit partner, called the initiative a lifeline.
"A project like this provides quality affordable housing and helps some of those folks move off the streets and into good housing," Dobbins said.
Construction on Bridlewood Crossing is expected to be completed by late 2025.
When finished, it will not only provide stable housing but also create a vibrant community where seniors can thrive. Rent for the units will range between $615 and $1,100 per month.
