LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new bakery, café and deli is serving up Cuban and Spanish-inspired foods in Middletown.
Sweet Haven Bakery Café & Deli opened in May on Main Street, according to our partners at Louisville Business First. It offers everything from coffee, sandwiches, housemade sauces and pastries that are sourced from a local baker.
Longtime friends Laisa González and Yunayky Pertierra opened the shop in an effort to fill a gap in the market for Cuban cuisine in Louisville's east end.
The nearly 1,000-square-foot café blends Cuban and Spanish culinary traditions that reflect the owners' backgrounds.
"We live in the east end, and we love Cuban coffee and food and bread and everything," González told LBF. "We had to drive to the Shepherdsville Road and Preston area to get any Cuban coffee or buy bread. We usually buy bread every day for our house. We just have to go so far. So, we thought there was a need for something out this way."
The café is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. It's closed on Mondays.
