LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new Cuban cafe will open this week in the Shelby Park neighborhood, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.

Sweet Colada plans to open July 10 at 1113 Logan Street, near the Logan Street Market. The restaurant and cocktail bar plans to hold a grand opening in August.

Nachley Martinez is the owner of the restaurant. Her family owns and operates Sweet Havana on Fern Valley Road

She said opening Sweet Colada is a way to help her parents expand their business. Most of the pastries at Sweet Colada will be made at Sweet Havana.

“I moved here and again — I wanted nothing to do with the business — but I was always behind the scenes helping my parents, doing Facebook and spreadsheets,” Martinez said. “I started really getting involved with the business, and they wanted to continue growing. At that point, I decided that’s where I needed to step in. It’s a big part of their growth and gives them an option for future retirement.”

Other food items will be made at the restaurant. Sweet Colada will also offer coffee, sandwiches, juices, empanadas and snacks. The restaurant will have a walk-up window for customers.

"We started last week with soft opening training, and interestingly enough, we added a whole bar concept," Martinez said to Louisville Business First. “So, I realized the soft opening is just going to be a little bit longer than I anticipated because of the bar—making sure you get the drinks right.”

Martinez plans to add an outdoor patio in the future.

The restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
