LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville's east end might be getting a new grocery store.
The owners of Blankenbaker Plaza at 201 Blankenbaker Parkway plan to demolish part of the old Walmart Neighborhood Market and rebuild, according to our partners at Business First.
The proposed revitalized 52,777-square-foot grocery store will have a new liquor store next to the existing store. The other stores in the shopping center will not be touched.
It is unknown if Gordon Realty, which owns the shopping center, has a grocer already planned for the space. Gordon Realty purchased the shopping center in 2022 for $10.4 million.
The site was originally a Winn-Dixie, and then Walmart Neighborhood Market moved in, closing in 2018. The space has been vacant ever since.
Louisville's east end has become a hot spot for new grocery stores in the past year.
Publix opened its first store last year off Old Henry Road, and the company has announced two more locations in eastern Jefferson County.
In addition, Kroger has broken ground on a two new locations in Louisville — one at 6803 Beulah Church Road in southeast Louisville and the other in the east end on Ballardsville Road.
