Sake A Go Go

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new Japanese restaurant will open next week on East Market Street in NuLu, courtesy of the creator of Village Anchor, Le Moo and Grassa Gramma.

Saka A Go Go will open May 8 at 620 E. Market St., according to our partners at Louisville Business First.

"I wanted to bring something different to Louisville and Kentucky, and I knew that I was capable of doing that," said Kevin Grangier, president and CEO of the Belle Noble Entertainment Group. "NuLu just presented itself as an obvious placement for this, because, first of all, it's popular, it's growing, and there's not really a sushi restaurant near it."

Grangier also just opened a new steakhouse on the top floor of Hotel Bourré Bonne, the newest hotel at 133 W. Market St. in downtown Louisville. He said the inspiration behind Sake A Go Go came from several trips to Japan in the last couple years.

"This is the first restaurant that I've done that wasn't close to home to me," he said. "You know, Village Anchor was very close to home. Le Moo was very close to home in terms of the design. Grassa Gramma wasn't so much close to home, but I was very familiar with Italy through my travels and Italian food."

Sake A Go Go takes over the space once held by Toast on Market, which closed in 2022. Grangier invested more than $2 million to transform the building.
