LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Papa John's International announced Todd Penegor as its new president and chief executive officer.
In a news release Thursday, the Louisville-based company said Penegor joins the Board of Directors immediately to take over from Ravi Thanawala, who served as interim CEO since March. Thanawala will continue his role as chief financial officer.
Penegor was most recently CEO of The Wendy's Company. The release said he helped the burger chain grow sales and expand the company's footprint to more than 7,000 restaurants worldwide. Penegor held previous global roles in both Kellogg Company and the Ford Motor Company.
Christopher Coleman, chair of the Papa Johns Board of Directors, said in a statement that Penegor is a proven leader to help Papa Johns accelerate growth.
"Todd has an outstanding record of leading winning teams and scaling franchised operations globally through trusted partnerships, product innovation and digital transformation," Coleman said. "He has also demonstrated his ability to effectively allocate capital, drive value and enhance profitability. "
Penegor said in a statement that he is honored to help build on what he called Papa Johns' exceptional foundation.
"By consistently delivering on the Better Ingredients. Better Pizza. brand promise, Papa Johns already has the best pizza in the industry," Penegor said. "I am committed to providing exceptional customer experiences across all of our offerings and touchpoints to ensure we unlock the full potential of Papa Johns’ differentiated market position."
