LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- People who visit downtown Jeffersonville can now enjoy alcoholic beverages in designated outdoor areas.
The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission approved the city's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area or "DORA" application.
The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission approved the city's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area or "DORA" application.
Under state law, the city may establish up to seven DORAs.
Signs will be posted at street entries and exits to let people know when they're entering or leaving the DORA.
Downtown retailers in the area can apply for a permit and when approved display the designated DORA sign.
Mayor Mike Moore said four businesses are already approved: Harry's Taphouse and Kitchen, Parlour, The Alcove, and Coffee Crossing.Â
"If you wanna grab a beer, sit here at Parlour for a little bit, take in the Big Four Bridge and then we got a concert starting down on the riverfront, hey, as long as you got that DORA symbol on the cup you’re free to walk around," Moore said.
"I think it's really interesting and cool," said Shepherd Ahers who walked across the Big Four Bridge from Louisville to Jeffersonville. "I think people are going to do stuff like that regardless but giving it a little more control and boundaries is good."Â
The DORA makes up part of downtown, the riverfront and NOCO Arts District.
Residential properties are excluded and boundaries can't be within 200 feet of a church or school.
To be considered, you must apply with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission.
