JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Jeffersonville's oldest retail store is celebrating its 134th anniversary on Friday.

Opened April 11, 1891 by current co-owner Warren Schimpf's great grandfather, the store has expanded several times, adding more space, more employees and a museum.

But one thing has remained constant: the store still makes its candy by hand on the same table that has been used since it opened.

The family-run store has survived two pandemics, the Great Depression, and the 1937 flood.

As part of the celebration, Schimpff's is giving its customers a taste of the prices that were in effect when it opened in 1891. Customers can get a bag of red hots for just two cents with any purchase of at least $2.50 until the store closes at 5 p.m.

Customers who visit are encouraged to share their memories. If you couldn't make it in person, leave a comment with your memories on its Facebook page.
