SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Plans for a massive new warehouse in Shepherdsville are raising concerns for some people who live nearby, while the city says its growth is focused on families.
Jason Overstreet has lived in Shepherdsville for about a decade. For him, the proposal hits home.
"These are middle class communities, we live here for a reason, to have some peace and quiet and we don't want warehouses going 24/7," Overstreet said.
Overstreet has several different concerns, "You got light pollution, you have certainly noise pollution and there's been ongoing traffic problems and it's growing," he said.
Shepherdsville Mayor Jose Cubero is a supporter of the proposal, saying building up business in the area is important.
"Shepherdsville is open for business, but we want to listen to our residents, we want to hear what they have to say," he said.
The company behind the proposal is Prologis, who Cubero said has been a part of the Shepherdsville community for decades.
The plan was originally two buildings, but after speaking with community members, the company scaled back to just one.
"If the Prologis folks can do enough of the adjustments to a building that it could be suitable next to a neighborhood, then we'll see it work," Cubero said.
Both sides say they just want what's best for the next generation.
"I have a little daughter, she's 7 years old, I want to leave this Earth some time, but I want to leave it better for her. I don't want her waking up and can't sleep because of the lights and noise pollution," Overstreet said.
"If you notice our growth, our growth is focused on families and we want people to understand we're not just building warehouses so we can just keep taking money and do more for the community, we're going to continue to reinvest," Cubero said.
Prologis will meet with the public for the third time and show its updated plans May 8 at 6 p.m. at the Shepherdsville City Hall.
