LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A day centered around social work was held at the Muhammad Ali Center on Monday in downtown Louisville.

Nearly three dozen social workers and community organizations gathered at the center for Social Work Day.

Dr. Renee Campbell, a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, was joined by other leaders from the University of Louisville, Kentucky State University and Spalding University to lead the forum.

"Everybody deserves to have good competent, medical treatment," Campbell said. "Everybody deserves to have access and to be treated fairly."

It is considered a call to action regarding the impact of social services and the medical community. It's not only the first of its kind for the city but also for the state. There were also resources offered at the event.

Campbell said she plans on the forum becoming an annual event.
