LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The United Autoworkers union will expand its two-week strike at Ford Motor Co. and General Motors, placing a total of about 25,000 of the union's 146,000 auto workers on the picket line.
UAW President Shawn Fain said Friday that an additional 7,000 members will walk off the job at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant, which produces the Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator and Police Interceptor SUVs; and at General Motor’s Lansing Delta Township Assembly in Michigan, which produces the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse.
While the union remains on strike at some facilities owned by Chrysler-parent Stellantis, the union will not add Stellantis locations to the strike on Friday. Fain said Stellantis has shown "momentum" in contract talks recently.
The announcement means some 12,000 union workers between Ford's two Louisville plants -- Louisville Assembly and Kentucky Truck -- will remain on the job for now. General Motors' Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Ky., also continues as normal.
