LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some people are getting their basketball brackets ready, but if you're not into that there's a bracket you may like.

Garden & Gun Magazine has a bracket for the best steakhouses across the south and one of Louisville's own made the cut.

Pat's Steak House is one of 32 iconic steakhouses that will compete to be named "the best."

The family owned and has been in business for nearly 70 years. The owner, Patrick Francis, said the meat is cut in house.

His father, who worked in a packing house, opened the restaurant in 1958. Francis took over in 1977 and has been running the business for nearly 50 years.

"We still do everything the old-fashioned way," said Francis. "We still bone and cut the steak."

According to Francis, generations of families return to the restaurant because of the quality of meat. They have hosted many different events from over the years including rehearsal dinners, birthday parties and bridal showers.

"For us, this steakhouse is a family restaurant," he said. "Some of these kids I'm seeing bring their wives, their girlfriends in. I've known them. I've known their grandfathers. It's just neat to see."

After learning that his restaurant is being recognized in the annual Garden & Guns Magazine bracket, he said he is honored to be a part of it.

"They had done an article years ago," he said. "I think it was for Derby and they mentioned us. But oh, it's a great feeling. It's a lot of hard work but a lot of teamwork."

More than 30 steakhouses are competing to win the title of "Best Steakhouse" in the south.
