LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man accused of stealing from the charity he founded is set to appear before a judge Monday morning.
Court hearings for Curtis have been delayed several times due to his continuing illness. Back in January, attorneys for Curtis asked a federal judge three times to delay a court hearing because of his illness. The attorneys argued Curtis was "too ill" to attend the hearings.
In an effort to delay court hearings, attorneys for Curtis also filed a motion stating, "Curtis is in a nursing home, and his condition remains tenuous." His attorneys also stated they "believe that Mr. Curtis is too ill to attend the hearing, and that he is not mentally competent to enter a plea at this time."
Prosecutors say Curtis took more than $180,000 from USA Harvest. They say he also charged another $370,000 as personal expenses. He's charged with mail fraud, money laundering and filing false tax returns.
