LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Cleanup efforts began Monday after strong storms caused widespread damage to homes across Jefferson County Sunday night.

You'll find several trees uprooted and on top of homes in Valley Station. Heavy winds also ripped through several neighborhoods off Dixie Highway leaving behind tons of damage.

"It sounded a little different than usual, it just sounded so intense, the wind blowing," said Karen DeSpain who lives in Valley Station.

She had a close call with a large tree in her neighbor's yard almost falling on their truck and garden. She said their power didn't come back on until 3 a.m. Monday morning.

"One thing scary is there's no basement so if something's really bad coming through all you can do is get in the hallway and you feel kind of frightened at times," DeSpain said.

All morning and afternoon crews with tree companies and LG&E have been picking up the pieces and will continue to do so.

"I'm afraid it's going to be like this for years to come because it's getting so much hotter," said DeSpain.

No injuries were reported from the storm.
