LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A legislative committee approved changes to Senate Bill 4 that would reshape how some Kentucky school boards are structured.

Under the proposed amendment, the Jefferson County Public Schools board would move to a mix of elected and appointed members — five of the seven members would be elected, while two would be appointed by the state treasurer.

The measure would also add two additional members to the Fayette County school board.

It also includes a provision that would prevent school district employees from serving on a board in a different district.

The proposal cleared an education committee, but still needs further approval before it can become law.
