LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An 18-year-old is facing aggravated battery charges after an altercation at a Jeffersonville bar last month.
The Jeffersonville Police Department said Bryce Grant-Martin was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, intimidation with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm.
Officers responded to Mick's Lounge, in the 1400 block of Gateway Plaza, on a disturbance call around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3
Witnesses told officers that a fight led to a shooting, and everyone involved fled before police arrived.
According to police, a third-party caller to 911 reported one person, Grant-Martin, was shot and taken to Norton Clark Hospital by private means.
Police said they went to speak to Grant-Martin at the hospital, but he refused to give a statement.
Another person involved in the altercation, 60-year-old Joseph Glenn, was also taken Norton Clark Hospital for treatment of a "significant" cut on his head that needed stitches, police said. Glenn told police his girlfriend was in a "hostile argument" with Grant-Martin, her son, near the AutoZone in Jeffersonville. Glenn and his girlfriend then went to Mick's Lounge.
That's when police said Grant-Martin, accompanied by several other men near the entrance to the bar, prevented Glenn and his girlfriend from getting inside. Police said Grant-Martin pointed a gun at his mother's stomach, and hit Glenn in the head with the gun while he was trying to calm the situation before pulling out a handgun, firing several shots.
Police said Glenn's girlfriend and mother of Grant-Martin was cooperative. Through investigation, police said they determined Glenn's actions were in self-defense.
Grant-Martin was in court Friday and pleaded not guilty. He is being held in the Clark County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.
