LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police are investigating after a double shooting Thursday evening sent a man and a teenager to the hospital.
Officers were called to the 1500 block of South 30th Street just before 5:30 p.m. on a reported shooting, according to officer Adam Sears, a spokesperson for LMPD. That's off Southern Avenue, near Wilson Avenue, in the Park DuValle neighborhood.
Once on scene, police found two people, a 17-year-old boy and a man, who had been shot.Â
Neighbors in the area say police activity like this has become a familiar sight.
Marcus Pryor, who has lived in the neighborhood for decades, walked into his backyard after hearing the commotion.
"Actually, nothing has changed," Pryor said, describing the police tape, flashing lights and uniformed officers. "Maybe something like this twice a month."
Both victims were taken to University of Louisville Hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is handling the investigation, but has no suspects and has made no arrests.
"Gun play … this is the second one in probably within two weeks," Pryor added.
Community advocate Christopher 2X, who works with families and children affected by gun violence, says he is seeing younger people involved more often.
"This is just the accessibility of guns, and it breaks your heart to see them so young getting access to weapons," he said.
The shooting came less than 24 hours after a separate incident Wednesday night. Police say a 13-year-old shot three adults, two of whom died at the scene.
"It’s difficult for multiple reasons," said LMPD Maj. Russell Miller Wednesday night. "We have multiple families that are impacted by this today. We have multiple families that live here that aren’t related to any of the victims, but they’re here. Their children are out here. It’s difficult for the officers when they respond to a scene of this nature as well."
On Thursday, strong winds rattled the police tape stretched across the street — an unfortunate yet familiar sight for Pryor.
"You have to keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel," he said.
Police say suspects in the latest shooting have not been publicly identified.
