LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Four people were arrested last week after being accused of stealing copper wire in Louisville.

Mayor Craig Greenberg said Colin James Hardin, Jasmin Becker, Robert Lapinksy and John Cummins were arrested by Louisville Metro Police officers.

According to court documents, on Feb. 18 officers found downed support cables in the roadway at 4 a.m. Police then located camera footage which shows a person in a vehicle cutting, damaging and removing 300 inches of ATT Fiber Optic cable lines from the area of Cooper Avenue and Filson Fields Drive in Okolona.

Detectives then conducted surveillance at the address of the registered vehicle used in the surveillance footage and saw Hardin, Cummins and Lapinsky load cut wire into a brown Chevy, and Hardin said Lapinksy was going to help strip the wire.

The scene was held by detectives while a search warrant was completed.

Becker was found in a nearby structure, and everyone was then interviewed. The suspects confessed to being the lookout as well as helping load the cut wire with Hardin, according to court documents.

Marijuana and tools were found with the wire that had already began to be stripped from the sheathing.

"While we are hopeful that these arrests will reduce the frequency of copper theft we must remain vigilant," said Carlos Sanchez, President of AT&T of Kentucky. "Destroying communication lines can keep people from reaching emergency services, putting people at risk in times of crime, injury, and crisis."

Mugshots for all four people weren't immediately made available.

AT&T is one of several communication companies offering rewards for the arrest of those caught stealing copper wires.
